Meridian’s largest public park Julius M. Kleiner Park Underway

This is great news.  The dirt lot near Eagle and Fairview is soon to be a 60 acre park called Julius M. Kleiner park.  It is named after Julius M. Kleiner who farmed the land the park will be built on.

When the park is all finished, in about a year, it will be an urban park full of trees, walking and biking paths, an amphitheater, volleyball courts, and more.

Tax Credit 2010 Extended By Obama

President Obama has signed the Home Buyer’s Tax Credit extension. Contrary to popular opinion, this does not extend the deadline for purchasing a home; it extends the time for closing your transaction.

To get the credit, you must have been under contract (accepted offer) by April 30, 2010.

If you were under contract by April 30, 2010, you now have until September 30, 2010 to close your transaction which used to have a June 30th date.

This could be a great thing for the real estate market because reports last week showed a huge fall in the pending home sales. Hopefully those buyers that have a short sale offer under contract will stick with it now with this new extension.

Woman Fakes Death To Avoid Home Foreclosure

Kind of a funny story today.  Maybe, not funny, but very interesting.

Facing a home loan monthly payment she couldn’t pay for, a Massachusetts woman allegedly faked the death of her son serving inside military, and at some point faked her own death, to stay away from foreclosure.

Donna Larson, 52, was indicted Friday on charges of attempted larceny and perjury, MyFoxBoston.com reports. In 2006, she could no longer make home loan payments on her West Bridgewater house, so she falsely reported to her mortgage corporation her son serving in the military been killed, claiming she would use his life insurance policy to pay off the debt, prosecutors allege.

The home loan firm then granted her an extension upon monthly payment.

When her home was finally foreclosed on in 2007, Larson allegedly bought more time by claiming that her attorney’s relative had died and wasn’t capable make court appearances.

Then, facing eviction in 2008, Larson allegedly elicited the assist of relative to call the lender’s attorney and record Larson as deceased. The mortgage business purchased the false record and once more granted the family extra extensions about the eviction, authorities say.

Larson is scheduled to be arraigned on July 12.
